About Us

History

The Michigan Leather Lights was founded in 2014 by Don Nilson-Hinton and his husband Keith Hinton. Don is a former full member of the Grand Rapids Rivermen, Keith is a former associate member of the Grand Rapids Rivermen. To Further there growth in the leather community Don and Keith formed the Michigan Leather Lights. The lighthouse is for there love of lighthouses around Michigan. When Don looked up and saw that beacon of light, to him it represented, guidance, hope, future, positivist, and respect. Don drew a rough copy of the club logo, then presented it to Calvin Pohler who made the design into what it is today by using his graphic art skills. Calvin does graphic design for a living and very talented. Don and Keith started traveling around the united states attending leather runs within the Mid America Conference of Clubs, building brotherhood and fellowship within other leather clubs, learning about clubs, how they operate, getting advice how to build a club Today The Michigan Leather Lights are Full M.A.C.C. Members representing there club around the midwest. Don's mentor as a leather man and most respected person that helped shaped Don's journey as a leather man is Former Mr. Michigan Leather Tony Wolfram current President of the Grand Rapids Rivermen. Tony Gave Don his first piece of Leather which was his vest. Today the Michigan Leather Lights have done fundraisers, supporting leather events, supported Mr. friendly, supported the Ruth Ellis house, guided two club members to becoming Mr. Dunes title holder and Mr Liberty title holder. The Michigan Leather Lights have established a home bar residing currently at the HayLoft Saloon in Detroit. We have full club members on both sides of the states and associate members all over the united states.
